Discussion:
Strange new message from my nuvi65LMT
(too old to reply)

I did an upgrade on the nuvi 65LMT on Friday last, before a trip
and on the return journey (I did not notice anything amiss on
the way out!), the screen kept blacking out with a message
every 5 minutes or so.

"The connected power cable is not compatible with trafficc
for this device. Traffic service is disabled. Connect the
correct power cable to receive traffice service".

Each time, I had to hit the "OK" button to get back to
map -- there was no time out for the warning screen.
Very irritating! The message kept recurring even after
I manually turned off traffic for the device.

Curiously, the probelm went away in the later part of
the trip.

Just wondering if the device did lose the signal as I am
using the same power cable as I have always used --
for the past 3 years.

I also checked the subscription for traffic and the device
says that there is life time subscription to "HERE" in
the US and Canada.

I do not care much about traffic. I can live without it.
But, I do not like to constantly hit the screen to get
back the map.

Any ideas why this happened for about three hours
and then went away?

thanks

I had a somewhat similar situation with a nuvi 2598. The first time I
used it after a software "upgrade", I got the same power cable/traffic
error message. Since the error message said it was a hardware problem, I
never connected the two events...assuming the cable had coincidentally
failed.

However, when I talked to Garmin support, they said it was in fact a
software issue and the upgrade had crashed the traffic function. The
device was still under warranty so I returned and and they sent me a
refurb that has worked fine. Not sure what would have happened if it was
out of warranty coverage...

Thanks for the info. Yes, it was right after the software upgrade for
me too! Mine may just be under warranty. Got to check that.

I am surprised that the traffic function cannot be recovered via
software. Cannot believe that hardware would actually be destroyed
by an upgrade.

But, there are funny things about Garmin. I will write up a very long
story soon about an issue that flummoxed me a year or so back. I
was quite surprised by their response.

Meanwhile, I got test it out ... Unfortunately, I am out of driving
shape for a few weeks (busted foot) and so I will have to try it
out on rides. The funny thing it started on the return trip, lasted
half way and then the unit started to behae wll for the last three
hours!

thanks again.

That's disgusting. If an upgrade crashes an essential function THAT YOU
PAID FOR I would think that even if the device was out of warranty it
would have been fixed/replaced. They broke it, they fix it.

Devices have devious minds of their own. If they get it into their
heads that you're going to dump them they either shape up or destroy
something essential that you'll have to fix because you need the
function and can't replace it before you fix it.

Yeah, they would have eventually. I always take the Tina Turner approach
with customer service...starting out nice and easy but ready to get nice
and rough;-)

Wade, thanks for the advice. Regarding your added commentary about guns: Criminals get their guns from your so-called law abiding citizens. They steal them or buy them from unethical dealers. All guns in the U.S. were legal at some point. Let's pass laws to keep track of all guns, so we know when they fall into the hands of criminals.

I'm having the same issue and Garmin was willing to sell me a refurb. Didn't admit the update crashed it. I might try a hard reset amd see if that works. I saw somewhere on line instructions on how to do that. Nothing to losee right?
