Discussion:
Can you easily get a compass reading (plus distance & elevation) to a given GPS location?

In another thread, I explained how I found an old object in the woods
at a certain location, a mile or so off trail from the nearest roadway
in steep heavily forested mountain country.

Given only the GPS coordinates to the location where that object was
found, is there an easy way, using the iPad or Android phone natively,
to get a compass bearing to that location to try to visit again?

The typical procedure would be to get close by dead reckoning, and,
then to hold the iPad or Android phone out flat and steady, and then
to follow a compass heading toward that known GPS coordinate.

What would be desired would be:
a) A compass heading to the known location (required)
b) Horizontal distance to the known location (nice to have)
c) Elevation change to the known location (even nicer to have)

Does such an app exist for the iPad or Android?

You might do better posting this inquiry in iPad/iOS and Android groups.
You're fishing in the wrong pond here.

This probably isn't quite what you're looking for, but when I want to
revisit a certain spot I use Google Maps on my Android phone. I zoom in,
then touch and hold the spot. In a few seconds, Google says I dropped a pin
there. After that, I can navigate back to that spot again.

Your b) and c) above are not provided. If the destination is off the road,
then I select walking mode for the final leg of the journey.
