i began to experience problem on my one-year old Montana 600 GPS. the problem is with touchscreen. when i entered street address on the screen, sometimes are showing the adjacent letters, i.e. when i enter letter 'F', it's showing 'G', also it takes multiple try to enter letters.

i'm not sure whether this is simply a screen calibration or an indication of hardware failure.

any thoughts?

Have you tried calibrating the screen?
On Setup menu, then Display, then pick "Calibrate Screen" and follow the
instructions.

See the user manual, page 36.

Try updating to current firmware.
Used to have that problem.
