Discussion:
Using SDHC card on Nuvi 56
(too old to reply)

The main memory on my Nuvi 56 is nearly full and the SDHC card is empty.

On my older TomTom I was prompted to chose which memory to use.

I can't find anything about selecting where to store data on Garmin.
Does it just automatically roll over to the SDHC card once main memory is
full?

Cheers

In my experience on a different model Nuvi, I had to specifically point my
computer to the memory card. No big deal other than the initial mental
exercise of figuring out I had to do it manually.

For clarification, did you just move some files (such as maps) from memory
to the SDHC card and then the Garmin picked them up OK?

Thanks

Yes, exactly. I left files that would normally remain static size-wise so I
wouldn’t exceed capacity on the unit & everything else on the huge card I
installed. My 3597 runs just fine regardless of where it has to look for
the info. I’ve got a ton of Saved destinations as well as POIs. Also have
all of North America maps as well as all of Europe. I used the Garmin in
Iceland in 2017 & it worked perfectly.
