We're on a trip to Australia, where this lovely machine has been
enormously useful. However, I seem to have confused it. The menus are
no longer in accordance with the manual, and there are other problems.

How do I restore it to its delivered condition?

Thanks!

I think that is available from Menu > Menu > System > Setup then press
menu again and use the option there. It might be a real heartbreaker
getting it all back to where you had it.

Good luck with that!

RESET was a pita, but that was a good start. I'm still not sure what
happened...

Surely there is a written guide to these ridiculous nested and
contingent menus.

Thanks, Jack

I had to make my own written guide. When I got to looking at all of
those preferences and settings, and thought to myself, what if I am
offshore in a boat and this damn thing resets itself to default? The
terror of considering that resulted in my create an ASCII text file that
has every setting I use in it and that permanently resides in my
essentials bag for boat deliveries. You can read it or save it from here:

http://home.maine.rr.com/jerbes/misc/080725_GPSMAP%2076Cx%20Settings.txt

It is for the 76Cx but it will work with your Legend HCx for the most
part.

Jack,

That is a gold mine of information - and indeed it seems to apply to
the HCx. This should be in the READ ME file for all newbies...

Thanks again!

There is a Yahoo etrex group. I'm convinced you'll get help there.
But you have to register ...
