How to download/add voices (nuvi)?

I have a nuvi 2589LMT and was hoping to find my preferred voice
(Aussie Karen) that I had used in my earlier Aus-delivery nuvi's.

This unit is USDM and Aussie voices are not included in the standard
configuration. Nowhere on Garmin's webpile can I find the voice
"repository". Heck, even the www.garmingarage.com link diverts to the
main site and doesn't even offer alternative vehicles.

Any suggestions, or am I S-O-L?

Pedro-

If you connect an Aussie Nuvi via USB to your computer, it may
eventually appear on your desktop. You may be able to search its
contents and find the voice file you want. Then copy it to the place
voice files are stored in your new Nuvi. There is a chance the old file
will not be compatible with your new Nuvi, but it is easy to try.

Another possibility is to download the Aussie Karen file from Garmin.
Check out <http://www.garmin.com/support/agree.jsp?id=1043> to see if it
is compatible with yours.

I am not sure what USDM is ... but here is how I do it.

You need Garmin Express -- the same software that you use to download
updates -- to get extra voices. Even then, I had to "work" a bit! You
select your unit and then choose the Tools and Content" button. Then
click on the "Utilities" tab. Go to the "Optional Updates" and you
will see the link to "Language File". In there are a pile of
languages. Select "English" and download. This file contains all the
accents.

Thanks all.

Fred, Owen - that was going to be my Plan B. It may still be my Plan
D.

Charlie - that's what Aussie Garmin support said was the *only* way to
do it. I went that route and sure enough, Karen Jacobsen is there and
now operative. The downside is that the d/l for just English is
620MB. Holy heck, that should have given me more voices than the
Vienna Boys Choir. I'm a bit concerned that - as each map update
seems larger than its predecessor - the memory space taken will
eventually bite me in the posterior. For now though, life is good.

USDM = US delivery model, i.e. comes with liftetime NA maps.

Do you have a separate SIMM card for "your own" stuff? Maybe
that can help. I live in the US and so have the "USDM", but keep
my western Europe map on a card. The internal memory could not
accomodate both maps. However, I am not sure whether it is okay
to keep the voice files in the external memory.

I dd not know that there were that may *English* voices! Perhaps
they should allow you to add just the ones you may like and not
the whote lot. Not sure what I did a few years back, but I have
only about 10 English voices .... and I do not use most of them
except for the comic relief of my passengers. A five minute burst
of the Indian one (Sangeeta) makes the most bored members of
my family stop asking "when will be get there?"!
