I want to replace an outdated map with an OSM map but there is not enough
room.
And I do not see the original map (Europe):

----------------------------------------------
GARMIN:
...
GPX:
3816613501.lpt
Archive:
1.gpx 466 kB
Current.gpx 1.9 GB
temp.gpx
...
Map:
gmapsupp.img* 204 MB

* an added hiking map.
----------------------------------------------

It could be the Current.gpx but then I'm confused by the extension.

I guess I can delete several voices and languages?

Thanks in advance.

Garmin "Nuevi" or nuvi? Does it have a model number?

Is there a slot for an SD card or micro-SD card? If it does, you put
the OSM map onto the card. The file must be called gmapsupp.img and it
must be in a folder called Garmin on the card.

You then go through the menus and select the OSM map as the one to use.

Here's how Garmin spells it: nüvi (copied & pasted from garmin.com)

In German, ü (umlaut u) and ue are equivalent.

His only error was to capitalize the n.

But still, I have to admit that "nuevi" does look funny to non-German
eyes, including mine :-)

Model 2240, no slot.
I have a gmapsupp.img already (added hiking map).
When I select/change the maps the size of the Current.gpx doesnt change.
No map in the folder Garmin.

I guess you can use your hiking map OK.

Unless someone knows better, I can only suggest the obvious - install
and use whichever gmapsupp.img you need at the time (either hiking or
OSM road map).

On many modern garmins, one can make other names like "osm.img" and they
work. But actual car nuvi units seem to be more picky.

You can also have a gmapsupp.img on the internal memory and on the
external microsd.

With mapinstall, you can combine multiple maps into one gmapsupp.img. I
have done this to merge pre-osm topo maps, osm, and contours.

I have an ancient and unreliable memory that some Garmin devices permit
multiple additional maps if they're named gmapsup1.img gmapsup2.img etc.

Note the dropping of the other "p" in the name to maintain the 8:3 ratio
of filemame length prefix:suffix.

John -

That's interesting.
gmapsupx.img is better recognized than freehand names like Germany.img
