Hi there

Just in case I need it, how does one upload new firmware to a Garmin GPS
18 LVC? I don't mind writing a bit of serial port software, but for this
I need to know the protocol that Garmin uses for firmware updates.

Rob-

I have collected three Garmin programs over the years: Garmin Map
Update.app, Garmin Express.app and Garmin WebUpdater.app.

I believe Garmin Express is the most recent. It does both Map and
firmware updates to two different units. If your unit's map is not
updatable, perhaps its firmware will be.

This software?

Or something different entirely?

In case the GPS week roll over causes any problems, I may need to update
the firmware of my Garmin GPS 18 LVC, which has a serial port. So USB
based tools do not apply.
What I need is either a software source or a description of the protocol
that Garmin uses for firmware updates. This way I can either compile a
program on my Linux box or write one from scratch.

Apparently there is also a JavaScript thingy which one can run from a
browser. Does anyone know anything about this script?

Rob
