Using Garmin GPS in Europe

I have a new Garmin 7200 (purchased in USA) on which I've installed a
set of Europe maps via the MapSource tool. I'll be using it next week
for road travel in Europe.

This evening I tried to enter an address in France, but I could only
have it look up a city. Will it act differently when the GPS gives me
a fix in country?

(I'm assuming that the 7200 software is similar to other Garmin
units.)

I would say no.

This depends on the map and mapdata.

I am using my 60CSx with City Navigator Europe or US and can query
street addresses in both areas.

I can't see that that would make any difference at all. Most Garmin
units have a setting to 'use indoors' i.e. when there is no satellite
contact at all. You can still search for an address if you have the
appropriate maps installed.

I think there is something wrong with your set-up. Are you sure you
have installed all the maps correctly? Can you actually display the
streets in the city in France that you're interested in?

Mike,

I installed the maps using MapSource and everything went fine as far
as I could tell. I can't find a setting in the software that would
seem to affect this operation.

Yes I can display the maps in France -- for example I can enter a lat/
lon coordinate as my destination and it will show that area. But it
will not let me enter the street address there.

The sequence I see goes like this:
1) Tap on "Where to?"
2) In the options titled "Find - Near Here":
3a) If I tap on "Address", it asks me "In What State is the Address?",
and I can only select USA states (nothing in Europe)
3b) If I tap on "Streets & Cities", it does not accept the street or
city in France I'm trying to enter

I found the solution to my problem: in Settings | Map | Detail Maps, I
set "City Navigator North America ..." to "Disabled", leaving only
"City Navigator Europe NT 2008" enabled. It then asked me to select a
country, and it accepted France, and the complete address I was trying
to enter.
